Oceans and seas cover over 70 percent of our planet and we rely on them for sustenance, energy, and water. Yet, we have inflicted tremendous damage to these resources. By protecting these resources by eliminating pollution and overfishing and responsibly managing and protecting all marine life in the world we can secure a better future for the next generations that are to come.
SDG 14 aims to conserve and use the oceans, seas, and marine resources in a sustainable manner. It prioritizes the prevention and reduction of marine pollution of all kinds, as well as to minimize and address the effects of ocean acidification and the regulation of fisheries.
Overall it aims to conserve and sustain resources within our waters by addressing marine pollution, the protection and restoration of our marine ecosystems, promotion of sustainable fishing, and the conservation of coastal and marine areas. The goal also emphasizes the combat of ocean acidification, support for small-scale fisheries, and implementation of international laws in order to protect marine biodiversity. SDG 14 aims to preserve the long-term health and productivity of our oceans for our future generations.
